Tell us a bit about what you do for a living

I’ve been into Visual Effects / Motion Graphics for a few years as a hobby, and now I’m a freelancer based out of Los Angeles, California.

How is your workspace set up?

I like to keep it simple (and dark). I have my monitor right in the center. Just to the left, I have my laptop on it’s stand with the screen right next to my monitor.Below my monitor is my ThunderBolt 3 Dock, which I use to connect everything back to my laptop using only one cable. Then, it’s just my mouse and keyboard on a really wide desk mat.

What hardware/equipment do you use?

  • Monitor – Dell U2718Q
  • Laptop – 2017 15″ MacBook Pro with TouchBar (full specs)
  • ThunderBolt 3 Dock – OWC 14-Port ThunderBolt 3 Dock
  • Keyboard – Apple Magic Keyboard 2 (Space Gray)
  • Mouse – Razer Lancehead Wireless
  • Laptop Stand – Rain Design mStand (Space Gray)
  • Desk Mat – Liebird Extended XXL Mouse Mat.

What software do you use?

I primarily use the Adobe CC Suite of software. This includes Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Lightroom, Etc. But, I also use many other pieces of software like Blender, Maya, Substance Painter, DaVinci Resolve, and some others.

What does a typical work day look like?

Since I’m a freelancer, it varies a lot. Usually, I’ll wake up and check the progress of all of my projects. I’ll start working on the most time-sensitive projects or projects that are due soon when I arrive home from school (I’m still a student.). When I’m at school, however, I will often chat with clients and take notes about the project when I have breaks. Also, I do all of my rendering/exporting at night so that I do not take up valuable work time.
